Abstract

On the occasion of the War of the Alpujarras (1568-1571) a good part of the raised population was reduced to slavery. Some Mirobrigensian magnates residing in Guadix participated in the purchase and sale of slaves. That was how several slaves ended up arriving in Ciudad Rodrigo, including several boys and girls. Some of these, invoking the royal pragmatics, which prohibited the slavery of children under eleven and girls under ten, filed a legal complaint and were released.
