Abstract
The colleges of Jesuit communities in the kingdom of Granada and in particular in Guadix, exemplified the order’s approach to addressing social and religious concerns in the area. Founded in 1599, the college of San Torcuato in Guadix continues to be one of the least known venues of the Company of Jesus in Andalusia. Here some of the foundational issues are reviewed, such as antecedents that facilitated the Jesuit presence in Guadix and arrangements made for the foundation of the college itself.
