Abstract
In 1902, in Huéscar, with some elaborate engineering, the land registrar Pedro López Carbonero converted a 16th century stone-operated flour mill into the city’s first power station. Almost simultaneously he built the flour mill La Pasiega, featuring cylinder- based milling machines, innovatory for this area and period. Through these and other enterprises and driven by a social conscience derived from the Institución Libre de Enseñanza, he transformed worker relations as well as the social mores of his times.
