Abstract

We analyses the origins of Lorenzo Ferrer Maldonado (1557-1625) from Guadix through the information provided by his maternal family, as they played a prominent role in the biography of the discoverer of the Anián Strait. Their influence is evident from the fact that, until recently, it was believed that he was born in Guadix. This city of the ancient kingdom of Granada occupied an important place in the life of the navigator from Guadix, promoting this study that aims to place the former capital of the district in a prominent place in its history.
